Chiropractor in Fair Lawn, NJChiropractic care is based on the diagnosis and treatment of misalignments of the joints, primarily those found in the spinal column. If left untreated, these misalignments can cause other issues in the body that may affect the nerves, muscles, and organs. Chiropractic adjustments can help patients who suffer from many ailments and injuries that cause chronic pain in the back, neck and other areas of the body.

Chiropractic adjustments can help patients to recover from pain and injury without surgery or medication

Not only can chiropractic adjustments help to align the body, but they can help people who suffer from other issues including digestive problems, sleep disorders, headaches and fatigue. The spine is the highway that connects the entire body. From brain to tailbone, as well as extending outwards, the spine controls and regulates many parts of the body. There are countless issues that chiropractic care can help with, either as a primary modality of treatment or as a supplement to other treatment programs.

Common benefits of routine chiropractic care:

  • Pain relief and accelerated healing
  • Improved nerve communication
  • Improved joint motion, balance and coordination
  • Increased body function and performance
  • Improved posture

Chiropractic techniques utilized at Academy Spine & Physical Therapy

This technique is the most common in chiropractic and involves the manual adjustment of the patient using a high velocity, low-amplitude thrust by hand.

This procedure allows our medical professionals to detect and treat areas of scar tissue in the muscles, tendons and ligaments that often lead to pain and discomfort. The technique is safe and effective for all ages and is currently being used by many university and professional sports teams to treat and prevent injury.

The Activator Methods® are for patients seeking a “gentler adjustment” or for patients that have severe, acute pain. A hand-held device is used to deliver a gentle impulse force to the spine with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted spinal joint or vertebrae.

Spinal Decompression Therapy involves stretching the spine, using a traction table or similar motorized device, with the goal of relieving back pain and/or leg pain. Both traction and decompression therapy are applied with the goals of relieving pain and promoting an optimal healing environment for bulging, degenerating, or herniated discs.

A specialized table is used at our facility to provide our chiropractic physicians with the ability to deliver a through and less discomforting spinal manipulation. The table and the area of the patient’s body will simultaneously drop with the thrust of the adjustment.  This alleviates some of the force of the manual adjustment.

Myofascial trigger points are a common source of pain. Trigger point therapy works to release these trigger points by utilizing hands-on manipulation to release the tension found in the body.  Trigger point therapy is common to chiropractic massage and is performed by a trained medical professional at our facility.

Small, precise amounts of flexion distraction can allow the herniated or bulging disc to go back into position, relieving nerve pressure and pain and moving much-needed fluids back into the disc.

When used properly acupressure helps in promoting the circulation of blood. When you apply pressure to certain points it helps in activating and opening up the flow of blood in the blood vessels present below the skin.

The goal of adjusting extremities is to restore the original and proper alignment of the joint which allows it to have normal and proper function.  Extremity adjustments can be done to the hands, feet, legs, shoulders, arms or even wrists dependent upon the origin of the pain.

Dr. Cintineo is certified to perform Manipulation Under Anesthesia for patients with chronic conditions including back pain and neck pain. Manipulation Under anesthesia is a manual therapy treatment technique which is used to improve articular and soft tissue movement using specifically controlled release, myofascial manipulation, and mobilization techniques while the patient is under light IV sedation using monitorized anesthesia care (MAC). After medical clearance, the patient is lightly anesthetized to achieve total relaxation, then adjustments and stretching movements which would normally be too painful to even consider performing in the office are easily, painlessly and quickly accomplished.
